O que significa fazer uma escola (de arte)?
A grande coisa sobre as escolas de arte é que todos os estereótipos que elas carregam são verdadeiros. O vagabundo preguiçoso, a hipersensibilidade, o psicobabble obscuro: tudo isso é verdade. E essa é a melhor parte. Os últimos traços do estilo de vida do artista foram pervertidos por nossa sociedade capitalista tardia, que naturalizou seu vocabulário de desempenho e realização pessoal, esvaziando seu significado. A escola de arte ainda pode ser um lugar para resistir aos valores dominantes, e tudo isso é indiscutível? É sobre isso que gostaríamos conversar publicamente em colaboração com Residência Artística Internacional CAPACETE e com a Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage.
François Piron é crítico de arte e curador. Ele administra o programa de pós-graduação na escola de arte de Lyon (França), residência de artistas dentro de uma academia de arte. Ele irá compartilhar experiências com os cinco artistas residentes deste ano: Sophie T. Lvoff (EUA), Irene Melix (Alemanha), Lou Masduraud e Geórgia René-Worms (França) e Maha Yammine (Líbano).
What’s a (art) school to do?
The great thing about art schools is that all the stereotypes that they carry along are true. The lazy idler, the oversensitivity, the abstruse psychobabble, it’s all true. And it’s the best part. The very last leftovers of the artist’s lifestyle have been perverted by our late capitalist society, which has naturalized its vocabulary of performance and personal achievement, emptying their meaning. Can the art school still be a place for resisting the dominant values, and all that is taken for granted? This is what we would like to discuss publically in collaboration with the International Art Residency CAPACETE and the School of Visual Arts Parque Lage.
François Piron is an art critic and a curator. He runs the post-graduate program at the art school in Lyon (France), an artists’ residency within an art academy.
He will share experiences with the five resident artists of this year: Sophie T. Lvoff from the USA, Irene Melix from Germany, Lou Masduraud and Georgia René-Worms from France, and Maha Yammine from Lebanon.
